How I got here

I know what it’s like to feel a little lost, to question your purpose.

I also know what it’s like to feel completely in balance and fulfilled.

I can help you get there.

Once upon a time, this page was filled with lots of information about my credentials—my experience, the letters behind my name, etc. Don’t worry, I’ve got plenty of that. But what I’ve realized in decades of coaching as a manager, parent coach, and in private practice is if I can help you pull out what your real goals are, what’s standing in the way of those, and the best way to get around them.

I understand that route may be tricky, and at times even painful. I’ve been on it myself. A little over a decade ago, I reached a place in my life whe,re although I was very happy, I wasn’t necessarily fulfilled. I loved my job, my family, and my friends. It was all I could have hoped for and more, yet I couldn’t help but wonder, “Is this all there is?”

Shortly after that, a friend at work challenged me to try something new every month for a year and post it on social media. That seemingly silly challenge would change my life. Slowly my outlook began to change and I began to see opportunities in places I never would have thought to look before. We’ve moved, I’ve changed jobs to work on the One New Thing Project full time, and I’ve written a best-selling book about taking risks and welcoming failure into your life.

Over the last several decades, and in my own life, I’ve seen a few trends. When we’re looking to make big changes in our lives, our natural instinct is to cling to the familiar. The devil we know is often more comfortable than the devil we don’t. It’s often helpful to have an outside perspective to help objectively state the goals that you want in your life. Second, at times, we’re not even sure of what we want. We just know we don’t want this. In those instances, it’s really helpful to someone completely outside of your life to pull apart the tangled web and help you see your true goals. Finally and maybe most importantly, we all need someone to help us actually meet our goals. Think of me as your physical trainer. I’m the one that keeps you on track.

I’ve coached more than 800 individuals and provided presentations to more than 1,000 more. I have a Master’s Degree in Developmental Psychology, and I’m also a certified Life Coach. In my spare time, I spend a lot of time volunteering for the Find the Light Foundation. You can also find me checking one of the dozens of local ethnic food places near my house or going to the dozens of festivals my city has.
